Chapter 11 - The Siege on the SafehouseThe federal government had moved Claire, Leo, and Daniel to a high-security safehouse on the coast of Virginia, believing the local military presence would deter any retaliation. But Julian Vance, now completely unhinged and facing a lifetime behind bars, used his last remaining millions to hire an international tactical mercenary cell.

At 0200, during a violent Atlantic thunderstorm that knocked out the coastal power grid, the siege began.
The sound of suppressed automatic fire shattered the glass windows of the safehouse. Red laser sights danced across the walls as the mercenaries breached the perimeter, executing the federal marshals with cold, professional efficiency.
"Daniel! They're in the kitchen!" Sarah screamed, pushing young Leo beneath a heavy steel medical cabinet in the basement utility room.
Daniel, his shoulder wound reopening from the stress, grabbed a tactical shotgun from a fallen marshal. He stood at the top of the basement stairs, his heart pounding in his chest as the shadows of three armed men entered the hallway. He fired two heavy rounds, the muzzle flash illuminating the dark corridor as the lead mercenary fell backward through the shattered drywall.

"Claire, take Leo through the storm drain!" Daniel roared, firing again to suppress the oncoming fire as bullets chewed through the wooden stairs beneath his feet. "Mack is waiting at the secondary extraction point! Go now!"
Claire grabbed Leo, pulling the weeping boy through the narrow, concrete drainage pipe that led out to the rocky beach, while Daniel stayed behind, fighting a desperate, rearguard action in the dark, blood-slicked basement to buy them every precious second.
