Chapter 11 - The Breaking PointThe federal conference room was vast, lined with polished mahogany panels and dominated by a long glass table that reflected the cold, white light of the chandeliers above. Julian Vance sat at the far end, wearing a flawless gray suit, his hair neatly parted, a small, arrogant smile resting on his lips. Beside him sat Arthur, his face bruised from the previous night's encounter but his composure entirely restored.

Claire sat at the opposite end of the glass table. She looked small against the massive scale of the room, her hands resting flat on the surface.

The court reporter’s fingers hovered over her stenography machine like a waiting spider.

"Mrs. Vance," Julian’s personal defense attorney began, his voice dripping with a patronizing, gentle tone. "Let us speak plainly. On the night of July 14th, you suffered a severe panic attack in your home. Your husband attempted to restrain you to prevent you from running into the heavy rain while under the influence of unprescribed sedatives. Isn't it true that you have had these hallucinations since your university days?"

Claire didn't answer immediately. She looked at Julian. Her husband tilted his head, his eyes widening slightly—a specific, terrifying facial expression he had used for years to signal that a beating would follow if she spoke out of turn. The memory of the chemical fog, the heavy Vancetine dragging her down into the dark, threatened to surge back into her chest. Her breathing became shallow.

From the back of the room, the heavy oak doors opened.

Dr. Daniel walked in, accompanied by two federal agents from the Department of Justice's medical fraud division. He didn't say a word. He simply took his white doctor's coat and laid it gently over the back of the chair next to Claire.

Claire looked at the coat, then at Daniel’s calm, unyielding eyes. The fear vanished, replaced by a profound, icy clarity.

"No," Claire said, her voice cutting through the silent room like a razor blade. "That is a lie. My husband didn't restrain me. He bóp cổ tôi. He held me down until I couldn't breathe because I found out he murdered Elena Cross. And you, Arthur, you wrote the checks to cover it up."

She reached forward and slammed the silver flash drive onto the center of the glass table.

"Open it," she commanded the judge. "And listen to the dead speak."
