Chapter 7 - The Alliance of the DamnedThe gun in Henry’s hand slipped, his fingers losing their grip as the weapon clattered to the floor.

He fell to his knees, his massive frame shaking as he reached out for his son. Leo ran to him, throwing his arms around his father’s neck. Henry buried his face in the boy's hair, a low, choked sob escaping his throat—the sound of a man who had just been pulled back from the edge of an abyss.

Sophie sank to the floor, her energy completely spent. She closed her eyes, letting the tears fall freely now that the danger had passed.

After a long moment, Henry stood up, carrying Leo in one arm. He walked over to Sophie, extending his free hand.

“Silas,” Henry called out without looking back.

“Yes, boss?” Silas stepped into the ruined room.

“Bring the medical kit. And call my private doctor to the safe house.”

Henry looked down at Sophie, his expression a mixture of profound guilt and intense, burning gratitude. “I’m sorry, Sophie. I should have known.”

“You should have,” she said, accepting his hand as she stood up. “She was a snake from the start.”

“We’re going to my estate in Vermont,” Henry said. “It’s secure. No one knows about it except Silas. We need to plan.”

“Plan what?” Sophie asked, wiping her face.

“Vivienne thinks she won,” Henry said, his voice turning into ice. “She thinks my son is dead and that she has me trapped. I’m going to let her believe that. And then, I’m going to dismantle everything she’s ever cared about.”
