Chapter 4: The Camera Nobody Remembered

Long after midnight, Henry walked alone through the mansion.

He stopped outside the nursery.

Something caught his attention.

A small security camera tucked above the bookshelf.

He frowned.

"I forgot about this."

Years earlier, after Noah was born, he had installed cameras throughout the nursery for safety.

The recordings had automatically backed up to cloud storage.

Untouched.

Unwatched.

For three years.

Henry opened the archive.

The first video showed Grace rocking a feverish Noah through the night while doctors spoke over the phone.

The second showed Grace sleeping on the nursery floor because Noah refused to let go of her hand.

The third showed something else.

Vivian.

Standing in the doorway.

Watching.

Rolling her eyes.

Then turning around and walking away while Noah cried.

Henry's heartbeat slowed.

He clicked another recording.

Another.

And another.

Each one told the same story.

Grace never asked to become Noah's mother.

Life had simply left the child in her arms.
