Chapter 10 - The Garden of True GraceThe summer of 2027 broke with a brilliant, golden warmth over the coastal cliffs of Newport.

The garden behind the townhome was in full bloom, filled with white and pink roses, lavender, and sweet-smelling herbs. A large wooden table had been set on the grass beneath the shade of an old oak tree, loaded with plates of fresh fruit, homemade bread, and a large pitcher of iced tea.

This wasn't a party for sixty powerful strangers.

This was a gathering of family.

Thomas’s old friends from West Virginia had traveled down to visit, sitting around the table and laughing with Adriano’s new, honest business partners. Lucia, the old cook from the Providence estate, was there too, wearing her finest Sunday dress and helping Rebecca carry the fresh apple pies out to the garden.

Clementine, now five years old, was wearing a beautiful pale yellow sundress, her curls bouncing as she ran through the grass, her laughter carrying on the sea breeze like a beautiful melody.

Adriano stood by the edge of the garden, watching the scene with a quiet, profound happiness. The cold, sterile mansion outside Providence had been sold, its marble halls turned into a public art gallery, its dark history washed away by the light of a new legacy.

Rebecca walked over to him, her hand slipping naturally into his. Her skin was soft and warm, the rough marks of her labor long gone, replaced by the smooth grace of a woman who was loved, respected, and entirely secure.

“What are you thinking about?” she asked, leaning her head against his shoulder.

Adriano looked down at her, his dark eyes reflecting the brilliant blue of the Atlantic Ocean behind them. He lifted her hand, pressing a gentle kiss to her knuckles.

“I was thinking about the first time I saw you, Rebecca,” he said softly. “You were standing in the rain, looking so small, so fragile. I thought you were a ghost.”

“I was a ghost,” she whispered, looking out at her daughter, who was currently being lifted into the air by Adriano’s chief of security, Vance, her giggles filling the garden. “But you brought me back to life.”

“No,” Adriano said, pulling her close against his chest. “Clementine did that. She asked the question none of us had the courage to ask. She woke us up.”

As the sun began to set over the water, casting a warm, amber glow across the garden, they joined their friends at the table. The glasses clinked, the laughter was genuine, and the night was filled with a peace that would never be broken again.

From the ash of a corrupt empire and the cruelty of a silent pool, they had cultivated a garden of true, unyielding grace—a home where no one would ever have to cry alone again.
