CHAPTER 4 – The Video That Shattered the Robles Family (Part 1)

Marcus stared at the progress bar crawling across his laptop screen.

Downloading... 18%... 42%... 67%...

Neither he nor Alexander spoke.

The room was silent except for the hum of the computer and the distant sound of traffic outside the office window.

Finally, the download completed.

Marcus looked at Alexander.

"Are you ready?"

Alexander's expression remained unreadable.

"I don't think any father could ever be ready for this."

Marcus clicked the video.

The screen flickered to life.

The recording began with laughter.

Not nervous laughter.

Not uncomfortable laughter.

It was the carefree laughter of women who believed they would never be held accountable.

The camera was hidden inside Isabella's purse, pointed slightly upward.

The hotel suite appeared exactly as Sofia had described.

White roses decorated the room.

Wedding gifts covered one table.

Champagne sat untouched beside the bed.

The suite had been prepared for two newlyweds beginning their new life together.

Instead, it became a crime scene.

A timestamp appeared in the corner.

11:46 p.m.

The door opened.

Carmen Robles entered first.

Behind her came six women.

One of them quietly locked the door.

Alexander's fists tightened.

"There."

Marcus paused the video.

"The exact moment unlawful confinement begins."

He made a note for the investigators before pressing play again.

Sofia stood near the window, still wearing her wedding dress.

She smiled nervously.

"I thought Javier was coming back."

No one answered.

Carmen slowly walked toward her.

"He'll come later."

Sofia looked confused.

"Is... everything okay?"

Carmen smiled.

"That depends on you."

She reached into her designer handbag and removed a thick folder.

Property transfer documents.

Marcus zoomed in.

Every page carried Sofia's full legal name.

Alexander's face darkened.

"They prepared the paperwork before the wedding."

"This wasn't spontaneous," Marcus agreed.

"It was premeditated."

On the recording, Carmen handed Sofia a gold pen.

"Sign."

Sofia frowned.

"What is this?"

"The condo."

"No."

"You'll transfer ownership to Javier."

"No."

"The property belongs to me."

"It belonged to you yesterday."

Carmen's smile disappeared.

"Now you're married."

"It belongs to our family."

Sofia slowly placed the folder on the coffee table.

"I'm not signing anything."

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Then Carmen stepped forward.

Without warning—

SLAP!

The sound echoed through Marcus's office speakers.

Alexander flinched instinctively.

The force spun Sofia sideways.

She stumbled into the edge of the bed.

Marcus immediately lowered the volume.

Neither man needed to hear it loudly.

The image alone was enough.

Sofia touched her bleeding lip.

"Carmen..."

Another slap.

Then another.

Another.

The camera shook slightly as Isabella's breathing became uneven.

One woman whispered,

"She's stubborn."

Another laughed.

"She'll learn."

Alexander closed his eyes for only a second.

When he opened them again, they were colder than ice.

"Keep recording."

Marcus nodded silently.

The video continued.

After the tenth slap, Sofia collapsed onto her knees.

She wasn't screaming anymore.

She simply cried.

"Please..."

"I love Javier."

"I don't care about money."

"I just want my husband."

Carmen grabbed her hair.

"You'll learn something tonight."

"A husband belongs to his mother first."

She forced Sofia to look directly at the documents.

"You either sign..."

"Or you keep counting."

Another slap.

The women around them laughed again.

Marcus suddenly paused the video.

"What?"

Alexander asked.

Marcus pointed toward the corner of the screen.

"Look closely."

A reflection appeared in the large decorative mirror behind Carmen.

Standing just outside the partially opened bedroom door—

Was Javier.

He wasn't trying to enter.

He wasn't calling for help.

He was watching.

Marcus zoomed in.

The image became grainy but unmistakable.

Javier folded his arms.

Then they heard his voice.

"Mom."

"Don't hit her too hard in the face."

"She'll have pictures tomorrow."

Alexander slowly stood.

His chair rolled backward across the floor.

For a long moment, he couldn't speak.

Marcus quietly stopped the video.

"I think we've seen enough."

Alexander shook his head.

"No."

"We watch all of it."

Marcus hesitated.

"Alex..."

"We owe her that."

He sat down again.

"Every second."

The recording resumed.

Minute after minute documented every assault.

Every threat.

Every attempt to force Sofia's signature.

Every refusal.

Despite the pain...

Despite the fear...

She never signed.

Around the thirty-fifth minute, Carmen grew furious.

She grabbed the papers and tore them in half.

"You stupid girl!"

"You could have been part of this family!"

Sofia answered through tears.

"I wanted to be part of a family."

She looked toward the door.

"But families protect each other."

The room became silent.

Even the women who had laughed earlier stopped smiling.

For one brief moment, guilt crossed several faces.

Then Carmen pointed toward Sofia.

"Tie her hands."

Nobody moved.

"I said tie her hands!"

Again—

Nobody moved.

The atmosphere changed.

Fear had replaced excitement.

Even Carmen's closest friends suddenly realized they had crossed a line from intimidation into violent crime.

One woman quietly stepped backward.

Another looked toward the exit.

Isabella's whispered voice could barely be heard on the recording.

"This has gone too far."

Marcus paused once more.

He looked at Alexander.

"They're starting to turn on her."

Alexander nodded.

"They know they're trapped."

Just then, Marcus's office phone rang.

He answered.

It was Detective Sarah Collins.

"Marcus."

"We've obtained search warrants."

He glanced at Alexander.

"Already?"

Sarah's voice was steady.

"The District Attorney personally reviewed the preliminary evidence."

"We're moving today."

"Multiple locations."

"Hotel."

"Mansion."

"Carmen's office."

Marcus smiled for the first time that morning.

"I think you'll want to see this video."

Sarah replied without hesitation.

"We're on our way."

Alexander looked once more at the frozen image of Carmen standing over his bruised daughter.

For nearly twenty-four hours, the Robles family had believed they controlled the story.

They thought fear would silence Sofia.

They thought wealth would protect them.

They thought power would erase the truth.

They were wrong.

Because somewhere between the first slap...

And the fortieth...

May you like

Someone had quietly pressed Record.

And that single decision was about to bring the entire Robles family crashing down.
