CHAPTER 2 – The Evidence They Never Expected (Part 1)

The silence inside the Robles mansion lasted only a few seconds after Alexander Moreno walked away.

Then chaos erupted.

Eduardo slammed the lawsuit onto the marble dining table so hard that the crystal glasses rattled.

"This has to be a bluff."

Carmen snatched the folder from his hands, flipping through the pages with growing panic. Every document looked authentic. Medical photographs. Emergency room reports. Copies of legal filings. Statements signed by witnesses.

At the very back was a court notice requesting an emergency protective order against every member of the Robles family involved in the assault.

Her confidence began to crack.

"He wouldn't dare."

Eduardo looked toward Javier.

"What exactly happened last night?"

Javier hesitated.

"Nothing that serious."

Carmen answered before he could continue.

"She's exaggerating."

But Eduardo wasn't listening anymore.

He had built his construction company over thirty years. His family name was worth millions. A criminal investigation would destroy contracts overnight.

He grabbed Javier by the collar.

"I asked what happened."

Javier looked away.

"Mom wanted Sofia to sign the condo over."

Eduardo froze.

"You asked her about the property?"

"No..."

Carmen interrupted.

"I demanded it."

Eduardo slowly turned toward his wife.

"You what?"

She folded her arms defiantly.

"That condo should belong to our family."

"You assaulted a bride over real estate?"

"I disciplined a stubborn daughter-in-law."

Eduardo stared at her as though he were seeing a stranger.

"You've lost your mind."

...

Across town, Elena sat beside Sofia in a private examination room at Baylor Medical Center.

Doctors moved carefully as they documented every injury.

A nurse gently cleaned the cuts around Sofia's lips while another measured the bruises along her shoulders.

The physician sighed after reviewing the scans.

"You were fortunate."

Sofia looked confused.

"Fortunate?"

"Several more blows to the head could have caused permanent brain damage."

Elena's hands trembled.

The words hit harder than she expected.

Permanent brain damage.

Because of a condo.

Sofia stared silently at the ceiling.

She had replayed her wedding night a thousand times since escaping the hotel.

Every smile.

Every dance.

Every promise.

All of it now felt like part of an elaborate trap.

The doctor continued.

"We're documenting every injury carefully. If this becomes a criminal case, these records will be extremely important."

Elena nodded.

"It already is."

...

Meanwhile, Alexander sat inside Marcus Dean's office.

A large screen displayed blueprints of the Royal Crescent Hotel.

Marcus pointed to several marked locations.

"We've confirmed there are twenty-seven security cameras covering the guest floors."

Alexander leaned forward.

"What about inside the suite?"

"No hotel cameras."

Alexander wasn't surprised.

"But..."

Marcus continued.

"We interviewed two hotel employees."

He opened another folder.

"One housekeeper reported hearing screaming around midnight."

Another page.

"A room service waiter saw six women enter the bridal suite after Javier left."

Alexander's expression remained unreadable.

"Witnesses."

Marcus nodded.

"And there's more."

He pressed another key.

Hotel keycard records appeared on the screen.

"Every guest room door keeps an electronic log."

Alexander studied the timestamps.

11:18 p.m.

Javier entered with Sofia.

11:42 p.m.

Javier exited alone.

11:46 p.m.

Six separate guest cards entered the suite.

12:31 a.m.

Five women left.

12:34 a.m.

Carmen exited.

12:36 a.m.

Javier re-entered.

Alexander looked up.

"He went back inside?"

Marcus nodded.

"For exactly three minutes."

"And then?"

"He left again."

Alexander's jaw tightened.

"What happened during those three minutes?"

Neither man had an answer.

Yet.

...

At the Robles mansion...

Carmen refused to panic.

"They're trying to scare us."

Eduardo wasn't convinced.

He called the family's attorney immediately.

Less than an hour later, Richard Lawson arrived carrying his briefcase.

He reviewed every document carefully.

Nobody spoke.

Finally he removed his glasses.

"I have bad news."

Eduardo swallowed.

"How bad?"

Richard looked directly at Carmen.

"Did you strike Sofia?"

Silence.

"Carmen?"

She answered without remorse.

"Yes."

"How many times?"

"I don't remember."

Javier whispered,

"Forty."

Richard closed his eyes.

"And there were witnesses?"

"Yes."

"Cameras?"

"I think so."

Richard slowly leaned back in his chair.

"This isn't a simple domestic dispute."

He looked around the room.

"If the evidence matches these allegations, every person present could face criminal charges."

Eduardo felt the blood drain from his face.

"What about a settlement?"

Richard shook his head.

"Not if criminal investigators decide to prosecute."

Carmen scoffed.

"She's family."

Richard answered coldly.

"After last night, she's the victim."

...

Back at the hospital...

Sofia finally gathered enough strength to check her phone.

Hundreds of unread messages flooded the screen.

Congratulations.

Wedding photos.

Heart emojis.

Friends asking how the honeymoon was going.

She stared blankly.

None of them knew.

None of them could imagine what had happened only hours after those smiling photographs were taken.

Then another notification appeared.

From Javier.

Thirty missed calls.

Twenty-eight text messages.

Please answer.

Let's talk.

It wasn't supposed to happen like this.

Mom lost control.

I can explain.

Come home.

Delete the photos.

Don't tell anyone.

The final message froze her heart.

If you love me, don't destroy my family.

Sofia quietly handed the phone to Elena.

Her mother read every message.

Without saying a word, she walked into the hallway.

She dialed Alexander.

"He just asked her to delete the evidence."

Alexander's voice became dangerously calm.

"Save everything."

"I already have."

"Forward every message to Marcus."

"I will."

Alexander ended the call.

Marcus looked up.

"More evidence?"

Alexander nodded once.

"Witness tampering."

Marcus couldn't help smiling.

"Their lawyer is going to have a very difficult week."

Alexander stood and buttoned his jacket.

"Where are you going?"

"To the police."

Marcus picked up another folder.

"I'll come with you."

As they walked toward the elevator, Alexander's phone rang.

The caller ID showed an unfamiliar number.

He answered.

"This is Alexander Moreno."

A nervous female voice replied.

"My name is Isabella."

Alexander stopped walking.

"I was at the hotel last night."

His heartbeat slowed.

"I... I recorded something."

Marcus immediately looked at him.

Alexander switched the phone to speaker.

"What did you record?"

The young woman took a shaky breath.

"I was one of the women Carmen invited."

Alexander's eyes narrowed.

"And?"

Tears filled her voice.

"I couldn't stop her."

A pause.

"But I filmed everything."

Marcus and Alexander exchanged a silent look.

The video they had been hoping existed...

May you like

Was real.

And someone was willing to hand it over.
