Chapter 3 - The Freezing of the EmpireBy 8:00 AM the following morning, the financial district was buzzing. Claire sat in the executive suite of Vance & Associates, wrapped in a plush cream sweater, a white bandage discreetly placed near her hairline where the hot broth had slightly blistered her skin. In front of her were three computer monitors displaying live market feeds and corporate bank status bars.

Miriam, Julian’s top forensic accountant, walked in with a fresh cup of coffee—hot, but served with absolute care. "They are scrambling, Claire. Daniel tried to wire $4.2 million to a Swiss account at midnight. The system flagged it instantly under the injunction. The bank rejected the transfer, and the compliance officer flagged it as an attempt to hide stolen assets."
Claire took a sip of the coffee. "What about Evelyn’s charity foundation?"
"A complete sham," Miriam smiled sharply. "We traced 60% of the 'donations' directly back into a shell company that funds the Hawthorne family's private yachts and Marcy’s failed business ventures. Your husband didn't just steal from you; he used your grandfather's money to fund a multi-layered criminal enterprise masquerading as high society."
Meanwhile, at the Hawthorne corporate headquarters, chaos reigned. Daniel stood in the middle of the glass-walled boardroom, screaming into his phone.
"What do you mean the accounts are locked? I am the CEO!" Daniel roared.
"Sir," the panicked voice of his chief financial officer replied, "the bank says the primary guarantor of our corporate line of credit—the Sterling Trust—has withdrawn its backing. Without that trust, our debt-to-equity ratio falls below the legal limit. The board of directors is calling an emergency meeting for noon today to vote on your termination."
Daniel slammed the phone down, shattering the glass screen. Evelyn walked into the boardroom, her usual immaculate composure shattered. Her hair was slightly messy, and her eyes were wild.
"Daniel, the bank just declined my black card at the boutique," Evelyn said, her voice shaking. "And there are two men in dark suits standing outside our house with clipboards. What did that girl do to us?"

"She trapped us," Daniel whispered, sinking into his leather chair, the realization finally crashing down on him. "She played the submissive wife for three years while she gathered the rope to hang us all."
"Then we fight back," Evelyn hissed, her eyes narrowing. "She’s weak, Daniel. She’s always been weak. We just need to find her vulnerability."
