Chapter 9 - The Rebuilding of a FamilySix months passed.

The scandal of the Ramírez family had faded from the local news, replaced by the successful prosecution of Judge Silva and Héctor Vargas, both of whom were sentenced to lengthy prison terms. Patricia received a five-year sentence for her role in the forgery, while Doña Carmen, stripped of her wealth and her dignity, moved back to a tiny, rented room in the outskirts of the city, living on the charity of distant relatives who wanted nothing to do with her drama.
But inside the mansion, a new life had bloomed.
Diego used a portion of his savings to open a local construction consultancy firm in Mexico City, partnering with Sofia’s legal network. He no longer had to fly to Texas. He no longer had to spend months away from the people he loved. He was home, and his business was flourishing.
The house had been completely transformed.
The cold, ostentatious furniture Doña Carmen had bought with stolen money was gone, replaced by warm wood, bright colors, and comfortable sofas where the children could play without fear of ruining the fabric.
On the main wall of the living room, where Doña Carmen’s massive portrait had once hung, there was now a beautiful, professional family photograph. Diego, Mariana, Valeria, and Mateo, all smiling, their eyes filled with a peace that money could never buy.
One warm Saturday afternoon, the family was in the spacious backyard. Diego was grilling meat on a brick barbecue, the delicious smell of carne asada filling the air. Valeria was sitting at a wooden table, drawing a picture of their house, while Mateo chased a playful golden retriever puppy across the green lawn.
Mariana walked out of the house, carrying a tray of fresh lemonade. She wore a beautiful yellow sundress, her skin glowing, her hair long and healthy. She looked like a different woman from the exhausted, starving mother Diego had found six months ago.
"The table is set, Diego," Mariana smiled, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to his cheek.

"Almost ready, my love," Diego said, wrapping an arm around her waist. "Go sit down. You've worked enough today."
"I like working when it's for us," she whispered, her eyes shining with love.
