Chapter 7 - The Confrontation at the GateThe next morning, the sun rose over Lomas de Chapultepec, casting long, golden shadows across Diego’s mansion.

At exactly 9:00 AM, Patricia’s SUV pulled up to the gate, followed by Héctor Vargas’s black luxury sedan and the police officers from the previous day. Doña Carmen sat in the passenger seat of Patricia’s car, wearing a brand-new designer coat, a smug, victorious smile on her lips.
They stepped out of their vehicles, walking up to the gate where Diego, Mariana, and Sofia were waiting.
"Time’s up, Diego," Patricia called out, her voice dripping with artificial sympathy. "I hope you’ve packed your suitcases. The court-appointed administrator is here to take possession. Don't make this difficult in front of the children."
"Indeed, Mr. Ramírez," Héctor Vargas spoke up, stepping forward with a smirk. "The law must be respected. We wouldn't want to have to use force to remove your family."
Diego didn't move. He looked at his mother, who couldn't even look him in the eye, preferring to admire her freshly manicured nails.
"You really don't learn, do you, Mom?" Diego asked softly.
"I am your mother, Diego! You owe me respect!" Doña Carmen snapped, finally looking up. "You abandoned me for five years! You left me to manage everything!"
"I sent you nearly a million dollars!" Diego roared, his voice finally breaking through his calm, shaking the quiet street. "And you used it to starve my children! You are not a mother. You are a thief."
Sofia stepped forward, holding a manila envelope. She didn't hand it to Patricia or Héctor; she handed it directly to the lead police officer.
"Officer," Sofia said, "before you execute that eviction order, I suggest you read these documents. This is a federal injunction issued by the Attorney General's office, suspending Judge Silva’s order pending an active investigation into judicial bribery and international wire fraud."
Héctor Vargas’s smirk vanished. "What is this nonsense? Silva’s order is valid!"
"Not anymore, Héctor," Sofia smiled coldly. "Licenciado Alatorre was arrested last night. He has provided a full, state-approved confession detailing the fifty thousand dollar bribe you paid to Judge Silva. The federal police are currently executing an arrest warrant for the judge as we speak."
The lead police officer scanned the federal documents, his face turning grim. He looked at Héctor, then at Patricia.

"The eviction is suspended," the officer said, stepping back from the gate. "In fact, Mr. Vargas, we have received a federal backup request. You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit fraud and bribery."
Two unmarked police cars screeched around the corner, blockading Héctor’s sedan. Four federal agents stepped out, their weapons drawn, moving quickly to secure Héctor and Patricia.
