Chapter 6 - The Translation of JudgmentThe silence that followed Tessa's words was heavier than the mahogany door itself. Luca Vane looked as if he were about to faint, his hands trembling against his thighs. Brett stood frozen in the doorway, his chest heaving, his eyes darting toward the exits as if he were realizing too late that the floor beneath him was opening up.

"He... he said that?" Brett whispered, his voice cracking. "Tessa, you're making this up. You're trying to get back at us."

Tessa didn't even look at him. She kept her eyes on Salvatore, whose hands lifted once more, moving with a cold, deliberate rhythm that looked like a judge delivering a verdict from a high bench.

"He says," Tessa continued, her voice echoing clearly into the main hallway where the rest of the waitstaff had gathered, "that he watched the host, Brett Callahan, send a server into this room with the explicit intent to humiliate both her and a deaf man for the entertainment of the kitchen. He says he watched your faces through the glass. He saw the laughter."

Luca spun around, his face purple with rage as he looked at Brett. "You did what? You set this up? You idiot! Do you have any idea what you've done?!"

"Luca, I didn't mean—it was just a joke!" Brett stammered, stepping back into the hallway as Carla pulled away from him, completely abandoning her co-conspirator to save her own skin. "We just thought... we didn't think he knew sign language! We didn't think she knew it!"

Salvatore raised his hand again. One sharp, downward stroke.

"He is not finished," Tessa said, her gray eyes locking onto Brett. "Mr. Marquetti states that his logistics companies handle the food and liquor distribution contracts for the entire corporate group that owns Bellamy’s. If Brett Callahan and Carla Rossi are still employed by this establishment by midnight, those contracts are permanently terminated. And he will personally ensure that the health inspection boards review the cellar storage by tomorrow morning."

Luca’s breath left him in a sharp, wheezing gasp. "They're fired. They're gone, Mr. Marquetti. Right now. Brett, Carla, pack your things and get out of my restaurant before I call the police for harassment."

"Luca, please!" Carla cried, her eyes filling with real tears now. "I have rent! I have car payments!"

"Out!" Luca screamed.

Brett looked at Tessa, his eyes full of a venomous, pathetic hatred, but before he could speak a single word, Salvatore stepped into his line of sight. The mafia boss didn't raise his hands this time. He simply looked down at the host, his eyes so flat and murderous that Brett choked on his own breath, turned on his heel, and fled down the hallway toward the staff locker room, with Carla sobbing right behind him.

The hallway cleared out within seconds, leaving only Owen standing near the wine rack, looking completely terrified.

Salvatore turned back to the table, picked up his leather wallet, and extracted a sleek, black corporate card. He handed it to Luca, his face returning to that expressionless, untouchable mask.

"Run the card, Mr. Vane," Tessa said, translating the subtle tilt of Salvatore’s head. "And add a five-thousand-dollar gratuity to the bill. For the service."

Luca took the card with both hands as if it were a holy relic. "Yes... yes, immediately. Thank you, Mr. Marquetti. Thank you, Tessa."

As Luca hurried out of the room, the heavy door swung closed, shutting out the rest of the world once more. Tessa stood by the shattered glass on the floor, her heart finally slowing down. She looked at Salvatore, and for the first time, she saw a soft, genuine smile break across his handsome face.
