Chapter 5 - The Glass ShattersTessa walked out of the private room, her face completely pale, her eyes wide with a manufactured panic. She didn't look at Brett; she ran straight to Luca Vane’s office door and knocked frantically.

"Mr. Vane! Please, you need to come to table seven," she gasped, her voice loud enough to carry across the main dining room where several wealthy patrons turned to look. "Mr. Marquetti... he’s furious. He refuses to pay, and he wants the management immediately."
Brett’s smile was a grotesque thing of pure triumph. He stepped out from behind the host stand, straightening his vest. "I knew it. She broke him. I’ll handle this, Luca. I’m the head host, I can smooth over whatever mess this amateur made."
"Get out of my way, Brett," Luca snapped, pushing past him, his forehead slick with sweat. "If we lose the Marquetti account, the owner will skin us alive."
Brett, Carla, and Owen followed closely behind Luca like a pack of wolves chasing a wounded deer. They crowded into the narrow hallway outside table seven, their faces pressed against the frosted glass as Luca pushed the heavy mahogany door open. Tessa stood just behind them, her head down, her hands tucked into the pockets of her apron.
Inside the room, the atmosphere was frozen. Salvatore Marquetti sat rigidly, his arms crossed over his chest. The sea bass was half-eaten, the Barolo decanter sat empty, and a black leather wallet lay open on the table, a single crisp hundred-dollar bill sticking out of it—far below the actual price of the meal.
"Mr. Marquetti," Luca began, his hands raised in a placating gesture, his voice loud and slow as if he were speaking to a child. "I am so incredibly sorry for any disrespect or discomfort caused by our staff. Tessa is a temporary server, she doesn't usually handle our VIP rooms—"
Salvatore didn't look at Luca. He didn't even acknowledge his presence. Instead, his cold, lethal gaze moved past the general manager and landed directly on Brett Callahan, who was peering into the room with a smirk he hadn't quite hidden in time.
Salvatore stood up. The sheer physical presence of the man seemed to suck the air out of the room. He was over six feet tall, broad-shouldered, and his custom-tailored dark charcoal suit made him look like an assassin who had mistakenly wandered into a fine dining establishment. He walked slowly to the edge of the table, stopped exactly two inches from Luca, and then did something that made the general manager’s heart stop.
He lifted his hands and signed, his movements violent, sharp, and terrifyingly fast.
Luca blinked, completely lost. "I... Mr. Marquetti, I don't understand—"
Salvatore slammed his heavy palm down onto the dark wood table. The crystal wine glass shattered against the floor, sending a spray of red liquid across Luca’s polished leather shoes. The entire restaurant outside the room seemed to go dead silent.
Then, Salvatore pointed his finger directly at Tessa.
Tessa stepped forward, her face turning calm, her gray eyes clear. She looked at Luca, then at Brett, whose smirk had completely vanished, replaced by a grey, creeping terror.
"He wants me to translate," Tessa said, her voice dropping into a quiet, lethal register.
"Translate?" Brett stammered. "You... you can't talk to him."
"Shut up, Brett," Luca whispered, his eyes wide as he looked at Salvatore’s clenched fists. "Tessa... what is he saying? Please."

Tessa turned to Salvatore, nodded once, and then watched his hands move. When he finished, she turned back to the room, her voice steady and absolute.
"Mr. Marquetti says that for three years, he has come to this restaurant for the peace of its silence," Tessa translated, her fingers mimicking Salvatore’s signs with perfect synchronization. "But tonight, he discovered that your silence is not peace. It is a breeding ground for cowards."
