CHAPTER 1 — THE ULTRASOUND PHOTO

The mansion fell silent the moment the man stepped through the doors.

Every servant lowered their eyes.

Every guest sensed something had changed.

The wealthy woman standing over the pregnant maid suddenly lost the confidence she had worn all afternoon.

Her name was Victoria Langford.

For months she had controlled every narrative inside the Langford estate.

Every lie.

Every rumor.

Every carefully manufactured misunderstanding.

But now the one person she never expected to return was standing only a few feet away.

Adrian Langford.

He had just arrived from London after a six-month international expansion project.

Six months.

Six months during which he had been told repeatedly that Amelia had betrayed him.

That she had taken his money.

That she had disappeared with another man.

That she wanted nothing to do with him.

At first he refused to believe it.

Then came forged messages.

Forged emails.

Forged photos.

Fake evidence.

Piece by piece, someone had dismantled his trust.

Until eventually he stopped searching.

Stopped calling.

Stopped hoping.

And now—

There she was.

On her knees.

Covered in porridge.

Tears streaming down her face.

One hand protecting her swollen stomach.

The sight hit Adrian harder than any bullet ever could.

For several seconds he could not move.

Could not breathe.

Could not understand what he was seeing.

Victoria immediately recovered.

People like Victoria always did.

She rushed toward him wearing a mask of concern.

"Adrian!"

She grabbed his arm.

"You came back early."

His eyes never left Amelia.

"What happened?"

Victoria sighed dramatically.

"It's unfortunate."

She lowered her voice.

"She's become unstable."

Amelia slowly looked up.

The moment her eyes met Adrian's, time seemed to stop.

Pain.

Shock.

Disbelief.

Months of heartbreak collided inside a single glance.

Adrian took a step forward.

Amelia instinctively stepped back.

That hurt even more.

Because she looked afraid of him.

Victoria noticed.

And smiled internally.

Good.

Fear was useful.

Fear made people easier to manipulate.

"Adrian," Victoria continued softly, "she showed up months ago asking for work."

The servants exchanged nervous looks.

Everyone knew that was a lie.

Nobody dared speak.

Victoria pointed toward Amelia.

"She's been causing problems."

"Stealing."

"Creating scenes."

"Lying about being pregnant."

The room froze.

Amelia's face turned white.

Adrian looked at her stomach.

Then back at Victoria.

"Lying?"

Victoria nodded immediately.

"Of course."

Amelia suddenly laughed.

A broken laugh.

The kind that comes after a heart has already shattered.

Then she reached inside her worn apron.

Victoria's smile vanished.

The ultrasound photo.

Amelia unfolded it with trembling hands.

The paper was worn from being held too many times.

Too many lonely nights.

Too many tears.

Six handwritten words appeared beneath the image.

Words Adrian recognized instantly.

Because he had written them himself.

The day they learned they were having a baby.

"Waiting for our little miracle."

Adrian's face drained of color.

The room disappeared around him.

He remembered that day perfectly.

Amelia laughing.

Crying.

Throwing her arms around his neck.

The tiny heartbeat echoing through the clinic.

And afterward—

Writing those six words on the corner of the photo.

No one else knew.

No one.

Not even Victoria.

Amelia slowly held out the ultrasound.

"I kept it."

Her voice cracked.

"Even after I thought you abandoned us."

Adrian felt his knees weaken.

"What?"

The word barely escaped his mouth.

Amelia stared at him.

"You stopped answering."

"You disappeared."

"You never came."

"I waited."

Her tears fell harder.

"I waited every day."

Adrian looked stunned.

"I never received your messages."

Amelia laughed again.

A broken sound.

"I sent hundreds."

Silence.

Then Adrian slowly turned toward Victoria.

For the first time—

She looked nervous.

Very nervous.

Because she suddenly realized something.

The lies she spent months building were beginning to crack.

And once Adrian started asking questions—

Everything could collapse.

Including her future.

Including her inheritance.

Including the entire empire she planned to steal.

Meanwhile, none of them noticed an elderly servant quietly watching from the back of the room.

Mrs. Evelyn.

The housekeeper.

The only person who knew the full truth.

And hidden inside her bedroom drawer upstairs was a small flash drive.

A flash drive containing security footage.

Deleted messages.

Bank transfers.

Evidence.

Enough evidence to destroy Victoria forever.

Mrs. Evelyn looked at Amelia.

Then at Adrian.

And made a decision.

May you like

Tonight—

The truth would finally come out.
