Chapter 9 - The New EraThree months after taking control of the estate, my life had completely transformed.

The corporate forensic audit into Marlene and Jason’s financial activities had yielded devastating results for them. Faced with overwhelming evidence of corporate embezzlement, fraudulent disbursement claims, and misappropriation of trust funds, the district attorney offered Jason a plea deal involving two years of probation and restitution payments that would force him to work an honest job for the first time in his life.
Marlene had packed up whatever remaining wealth she had managed to hide and moved to a small, cramped apartment across town, completely cut off from high-society circles where her reputation had been permanently ruined by the legal scandal.
As for me, I had officially launched my own independent tech consultancy firm, operating out of the commercial office downtown that my father had originally purchased as a real estate investment.
My client list grew rapidly, driven by word-of-mouth recommendations and my reputation for ruthless efficiency and bulletproof cybersecurity protocols.
One evening in late November, I sat at the mahogany desk in my father’s old study, reviewing a new software deployment architecture for an international client.
The house was wonderfully quiet. No screaming. No slammed doors. No unreasonable demands.
Just peace.
My phone rang on the desk. It was Marcus calling with a routine corporate update.
“Everything set for tomorrow’s board meeting?” Marcus asked.
“Everything is locked down,” I replied confidently, typing a final line of code into my editor. “All corporate accounts are verified, the tax filings are complete, and the estate trust is fully audited.”

“You’ve built an incredible empire in just a few months, Clara,” Marcus said with genuine admiration in his voice.
“I didn't build it from scratch, Marcus,” I smiled, looking up at a framed photograph of my father hanging on the wood-paneled wall. “I just cleared away the debris so the original foundation could finally shine.”
