Chapter 9: Home

Five years later.

Morning sunlight filled the Vance kitchen.

Noah, now older, laughed as he chased the family dog across the floor.

Rebecca prepared breakfast.

Elliot argued playfully over pancakes.

Miles, now studying biomedical engineering, packed his university bag.

He paused before leaving.

On the hallway wall hung four framed photographs.

One of Noah as a baby.

One of Rebecca smiling in the hospital garden.

One of Elliot holding both boys after the investigation ended.

And one photograph that had been added only recently.

Miles's mother.

Not as a scientist.

Not as a victim.

Simply smiling.

Beneath the frame was a small plaque.

She taught us that every mind deserves freedom.

Miles looked at it for a long moment.

Then Noah tugged on his sleeve.

"Are you coming home for dinner?"

Miles smiled.

"I wouldn't miss it."

He stepped outside into the bright morning.

Behind him, laughter echoed through the house.

Ahead of him waited a future no algorithm could predict.

Because the greatest discovery Neural Bridge had never understood...

was that love could preserve a person far longer than any machine ever could.

And unlike every system that had fallen...

That kind of memory never needed saving.
