Chapter 5 - The Fall of EvelynWhile Daniel was fighting a losing battle in the boardroom, his mother was facing a very different kind of reckoning back on the North Shore.

Evelyn Whitmore had spent the morning pacing her immaculate, sprawling living room, dialing Daniel’s cell phone for the fiftieth time only to hear the automated carrier disconnect message.

The front doorbell chimed.

Assuming it was the grocery delivery or a panicked housekeeper returning early, Evelyn marched across the foyer and threw the heavy oak door open with a sharp huff.

"It's about time—" she started, before stopping dead.

Standing on her porch were two uniformed county sheriff deputies and a stern-looking court bailiff holding a thick sheaf of legal notices.

"Evelyn Whitmore?" the lead deputy asked, his voice completely devoid of warmth.

"Yes? What is the meaning of this?" Evelyn snapped, puffing up her chest with familiar entitlement. "Do you know who my family is? My husband built half the commercial properties in this county—"

"Mrs. Whitmore, you are being served with a formal restraining order filed by Chloe Morrison," the deputy interrupted, handing her the papers. "You are legally prohibited from coming within five hundred feet of her, her residence, or her place of business. Furthermore, execution of seizure has been ordered for all primary assets registered under Whitmore Holdings to satisfy outstanding corporate and personal default judgments held by Morrison Health."

Evelyn stared at the papers, her hands trembling violently as her eyes scanned the legal jargon.

"Seizure?" she whispered, her voice cracking in absolute horror. "What are you talking about? That's impossible! Our house, our accounts—everything is protected!"

"Not anymore, ma'am," the bailiff replied smoothly, stepping past her into the foyer. "Foreclosure and asset inventory teams will arrive in two hours. I advise you to pack your personal belongings and vacate the premises immediately."

Evelyn let out a choked, desperate sound, her knees buckling as she clutched the doorframe for support.

For seven years, she had ruled her household like a tyrant, looking down her nose at everyone she deemed beneath her, believing her wealth and social status made her untouchable.

Now, standing in the foyer of the mansion she was about to lose, she realized the terrifying truth: the very person she had treated like dirt was the one holding the axe that severed her entire world.
