Chapter 7 - The Vanguard TrapForty-eight hours later, our intelligence network flagged a high-level clandestine meeting scheduled inside the private subterranean vaults of the city's old financial exchange building—a secure location frequently rented out by international syndicates for secret transactions.

Rather than waiting for them to strike the Skyline Grand, we decided to turn the tables.
Using Jonathan Cole’s corporate network, we orchestrated a controlled corporate sting operation, creating a fake digital bait-file containing purported ownership blueprints of three major luxury hotels on the West Coast—assets the Vanguard Group desperately wanted to control.
At 11:00 PM, I stood inside the darkened command trailer parked two blocks away from the financial exchange, watching multiple tactical monitors alongside Marcus Hale and an elite team of federal operatives.
"Target has arrived," Marcus whispered, pointing to a thermal camera feed showing three black armored sedans pulling into the underground loading bay of the exchange building.
Four men in tailored black suits stepped out of the lead vehicle. The man in the center—tall, silver-haired, with cold, calculating eyes—was Viktor Vance (no direct relation to Arthur, but an even more ruthless syndicate enforcer who had flown in from Zurich).
Viktor strode confidently into the subterranean vault room, carrying a secure digital briefcase to interface with our bait server.
"They're plugging into the mainframe now," our lead tech specialist reported quietly from the corner of the trailer. "Downloading the decoy files... tracking encryption sequence active... and got them. We have their entire international node network mapped."
"Move in," I commanded calmly.
Within seconds, the tactical feeds exploded into motion. Federal marshals and elite tactical teams breached the underground vault from three different entry points simultaneously. Flashbangs echoed through the concrete chambers, and before Viktor Vance and his syndicates could even draw their concealed sidearms, they were pinned to the cold floor in plastic restraints.
Marcus spoke into his tactical radio, his voice crisp and victorious. "Vanguard regional command is secure. All nodes neutralized."

I exhaled a slow, steady breath, watching the monitor as Viktor Vance was hauled out in handcuffs, his smug expression replaced by a look of sheer, unadulterated shock.
They had underestimated a woman in a maid's uniform. And it had cost them their entire global empire.
