Chapter 9 - The Purge of Highland ParkBy 6:00 AM, the storm had completely cleared, leaving a crisp, cold sunrise over Lake Michigan.

The black SUV convoy screamed up the driveway of the Highland Park estate. Dominic stepped out of the lead vehicle, carrying Arthur in his arms, while Fiona walked beside him, her arm finally supported by a proper medical splint provided by Dominic’s private medical team.

The front doors of the mansion were pushed open, and Victoria stepped out onto the terrace. She had a manicured smile on her face, but the moment she saw Dominic holding Arthur—alive, alert, and looking healthier than he had in months—her smile froze.

"Dominic! Thank God!" Victoria gasped, rushing forward. "The nurse... she took him! We've been looking everywhere—"

"Quiet," Dominic said.

The coldness in his voice was absolute. It was the voice of a man who had sent empires to their graves.

Marco and three other guards stepped out from behind Victoria, their hands moving toward their holsters. But before they could draw, six of Dominic's loyal New York soldiers stepped out of the SUVs, their automatic rifles pointed directly at the security team.

"Marco," Dominic said, not even looking at his head of security. "You took five million from Victoria to disable the cameras. Did you think I wouldn't find out?"

Marco’s face turned pale. He slowly raised his hands. "Boss, please—"

"Take them away," Dominic commanded. "All of them. And find Reed. He’s currently at the Toluca airport trying to buy a ticket to Madrid. Bring him back to Chicago. I want him to experience the Sandman's bite himself."

Victoria fell to her knees, her silk robe dragging in the gravel. "Dominic! No! I loved you! I did it for us! The boy... he was always in the way!"

Dominic didn't look back as his men dragged Victoria and Marco into the waiting black vans. He walked up the steps of his mansion, his arm firmly wrapped around his son, with Fiona walking right by his side.

The fortress was clean. The monsters had been purged.
