Chapter 6 - The AwakeningThe sun rose over the Delaware River on Saturday morning, casting a pale, freezing light across the city, but inside the ICU room at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, the warmth of life was returning.

Harrison sat in the vinyl armchair beside Khloe’s bed, his head resting against his hand, his eyes closed in a rare moment of exhaustion.
A soft, ragged sigh broke the silence of the room.
Harrison’s eyes flew open.
Khloe’s head was moving slowly against the pillows, her long, dark eyelashes fluttering as she struggled to open her eyes against the bright hospital light. Her face was pale, but the blue shadow beneath her eyes had faded, replaced by the soft pink of returning circulation.
"Harry?" she whispered, her voice rough and dry.
Harrison stood up immediately, his large hand gently wrapping around hers, keeping his touch light to avoid her IV lines. "I'm here, Khloe. I'm right here."
She blinked, her eyes focusing on his face, her fingers clutching his hand with a sudden, desperate panic. "The baby... Harry, the baby. Is she—"
"She’s alive, Khloe," Harrison said, his voice dropping into a warm, soothing register that made her shoulders drop. "She’s in the NICU. She’s small, but she’s breathing. She’s going to make it, sweetheart. I promise you."
A single, silent tear spilled over Khloe’s cheek, her lips trembling as she let out a long, shuddering sob of pure relief. "Can I see her?"
"As soon as the doctors say you're ready," Harrison said, reaching down to gently brush her hair from her forehead. "But right now, you need to rest. You've been asleep for four days."
She looked around the sterile room, her eyes hardening slightly as the memories of the courthouse stairs returned. "Where is Richard?"
"Richard is currently in a federal holding cell in Philadelphia," Harrison said, his voice flat, devoid of any emotion. "He was arrested on Tuesday morning for corporate fraud and conspiracy. He won't be coming back to the house, Khloe. He won't be coming back to your life."
Khloe closed her eyes, her hand tightening around his. "And Vanessa?"
May you like
"She is in jail, Khloe," Harrison said, his voice dropping into that quiet, absolute register of a man who had settled his account with the world. "She is never going to hurt you again. I’ve taken care of everything."
Khloe let out a long, peaceful sigh, her body finally relaxing against the pillows as she fell into a deep, healing sleep, the storm of her old life finally passing.
