Chapter 5 - The Master Key"What is the meaning of this?" Preston demanded, his voice cracking as the projection screen flickered to life, displaying the original incorporation documents of Montgomery Tech and Aegis Holdings from fifteen years ago.

"The meaning is very simple, Preston," I said, resting my hands on the back of a leather chair. "Fifteen years ago, you had a brilliant idea, but you had zero capital and no business structure. I gave you fifty thousand dollars. But more importantly, I structured your corporate foundation. I set up Aegis Holdings to hold the master patents for your security algorithms. Montgomery Tech does not own the intellectual property. You lease it."
"We have an automatic renewal clause!" Preston shouted, his face turning a dangerous shade of red. "My legal team vetted that contract years ago!"
"Your legal team vetted the contract under your instruction," Belle Stevens countered smoothly, sliding a document across the table to Arthur Pendelton. "But they failed to read the material breach clause. Under Section 9, Paragraph B, if the managing director of Aegis Holdings determines that the lessee—Montgomery Tech—is involved in activities that present a severe reputational risk, or if there is a default in payment, the lease can be terminated with twenty-four hours' notice."
Arthur Pendelton scanned the document, his hands visibly shaking. He looked up at Preston, his eyes filled with fury. "Preston... is this true?"
"It’s a dummy clause!" Preston stammered, stepping back. "She’s my wife! Her assets are my assets!"
"Not Aegis," I said. "Aegis was created before our marriage, funded entirely by my personal inheritance and career savings from my Wall Street days. It is completely excluded from our prenuptial agreement. It is solely, entirely mine."
I looked around the table at the board members, who were now looking at Preston as if he were a dead man walking.
"The quarterly lease payment of eighty-five million dollars was due in your accounts yesterday," I said. "According to our records, the transfer was initiated, but it was flagged and halted due to insufficient funds in Montgomery Tech's primary operating reserve. Preston, where is the money?"
Preston didn't answer. He couldn't. His gaze darted to Natasha, then back to the floor.
"I can answer that," Marcus Vance spoke up, pressing a key on his laptop. The screen shifted, displaying a complex, color-coded map of offshore transfers, shell companies, and luxury purchases.
"Over the last eighteen months, Preston Montgomery has diverted over one hundred and twenty million dollars of Montgomery Tech's corporate reserves into the Beatrice Montgomery Foundation," Marcus explained. "From there, the money was laundered through shell companies in the Cayman Islands. Over forty million dollars was used to purchase a luxury condo in Tribeca and various high-end assets for Ms. Natasha Coleman, sitting right there."
The boardroom erupted into chaos.
Natasha stood up, grabbing her designer bag, her face pale. "I... I have nothing to do with this! Preston told me it was his personal money!"
"You're fired, Natasha," Arthur Pendelton roared, pointing a trembling finger at the door. "Get out of this building before we have the police drag you out!"

She didn't need to be told twice. She bolted through the glass doors, leaving Preston standing completely alone.
"As of this moment," I said, my voice cutting through the noise, "I am declaring Montgomery Tech in material breach of the licensing agreement. You have twenty-four hours to cure the default of eighty-five million dollars, or the lease is revoked. And without those algorithms, your systems go dark, your government contracts are voided, and your stock value will drop to zero by tomorrow morning."
