CHAPTER 2: THE SECRET FROM THE PAST

The studio remained frozen.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody moved.
The elderly woman stepped away from the barre and faced the mirrors.
Then something unbelievable happened.
The music began.
No one knew who had pressed play.
A haunting melody filled the room.
The woman closed her eyes.
And started dancing.
At first her movements were gentle.
Elegant.
Almost delicate.
Then the tempo increased.
Suddenly she was spinning.
One turn.
Two turns.
Three turns.
The dancers stared in disbelief.
Daniel felt his heart pounding.
Every movement looked familiar.
Painfully familiar.
He had seen this choreography before.
Years ago.
Inside old recordings he studied during his training.
His face slowly lost all color.
"No..."
The woman completed a breathtaking sequence and stopped.
Silence.
Absolute silence.
Then Daniel whispered a name.
"Aurora Laurent..."
The room exploded with confusion.
The students looked at one another.
They all knew that name.
Every dancer in the country knew it.
Aurora Laurent was a legend.
The greatest ballerina of her generation.
A woman who had disappeared from public life forty years earlier after a mysterious accident.
Books had been written about her.
Movies had been made about her.
Some believed she had died.
Others claimed she lived somewhere overseas.
Nobody knew the truth.
Until now.
The elderly woman smiled.
"Hello, Daniel."
The young choreographer's legs nearly gave way.
"You... you're Aurora?"
She nodded.
Gasps echoed throughout the studio.
Several students covered their mouths.
Vanessa looked like she had seen a ghost.
Daniel remembered something from his childhood.
A photograph hanging in his grandmother's house.
A ballerina in a white costume.
A woman whose eyes looked exactly like the woman standing before him now.
His voice trembled.
"My grandmother loved your performances."
Aurora's smile faded slightly.
"I know."
Daniel frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Aurora slowly opened her sports bag.
Inside was an old photograph.
Yellowed with age.
She handed it to him.
Daniel looked down.
The photograph slipped from his fingers.
His eyes filled with tears.
The woman standing beside Aurora in the picture was his grandmother.
And written on the back were four words.
To My Best Friend.
Aurora Laurent.
The entire room fell silent.
Daniel finally understood.
His grandmother had never simply admired Aurora.
They had been best friends.
Family.
Connected by a history he had never known.
But Aurora wasn't finished.
She looked around the room.
Her eyes stopped on the students who had laughed at her.
Then she revealed the truth nobody expected.
The real reason she had come back.
May you like
And it had nothing to do with dancing.
