Chapter 2

The Woman They Thought Was Broken
Weeks pass.
Emma endures painful rehabilitation every day, determined to walk again despite doctors warning that recovery could take months.
Meanwhile, Margaret refuses every request to let Emma see her son.
Mark visits less and less.
Each time he comes, he repeats his mother's excuses.
Emma slowly realizes he has become completely controlled by Margaret.
Then an elderly nurse named Linda secretly visits Emma after hours.
Linda witnessed everything that happened the day Margaret slapped Emma and stole the baby.
She quietly hands Emma something.
A flash drive.
The hospital security footage.
Emma watches the video.
There it is.
Margaret striking her.
Margaret forcibly taking the baby.
Mark standing there doing nothing.
Even worse...
Emma discovers Margaret has been telling everyone that Emma voluntarily gave up custody because she was mentally unstable.
Linda encourages Emma to fight.
Emma contacts family attorney David Lawson, who agrees to represent her.
David warns her that Margaret has money, influence, and powerful friends.
But he also tells Emma one thing.
"The truth doesn't care how rich someone is."
Emma finally leaves the hospital using a walker.
She isn't fully healed.
But she's ready for war.
Ending Cliffhanger:
David calls Emma late that night.
"There's something you need to see."
He sends her copies of court documents.
